Because of a 1998 health insurance law, we have more options to be physically “whole” in the United States than many other parts of the world. With the Look Now Project, you can now see and hear what choices are available, and what the outcomes were for 44 of us. ~ Tula Goenka, TEDx Talk

Lumpectomy

A lumpectomy is the least invasive procedure in which only a small portion of tissue is removed.

Unilateral Mastectomy

A unilateral mastectomy is when one breast is removed. Some people remain flat (photos 1 to 4), some have a silicone implant (photos 5 to 8), and some have a TRAM-Flap or DIEP-flap in which tissue from their own body is used to create a breast (photos 9 tp 10). Many also get nipple tattoos.

Bilateral Mastectomy

A bilateral mastectomy is when both breasts are removed. Some people remain flat (photos 1 to 5), some have a silicone implant (photos 6 to 14), and some have a TRAM-Flap or DIEP-flap in which tissue from their own body is used to create a breast (photos 15 to 18). Many also get nipple tattoos.
